WHY CHOOSE NETRAM FOR IPCL

Advanced Eye Care Rooted in Trust and Excellence

Phakic IOL Expertise — IPCL & ICL Both Available

We offer both IPCL (Care Group India) and ICL (STAAR Surgical). Dr. Anchal Gupta recommends the most suitable option based on your unique eye anatomy, prescription, and budget.

Custom-Manufactured Lens for Your Eye

Every IPCL is custom-ordered from Care Group, Vadodara based on your precise measurements — white-to-white diameter, anterior chamber depth, and exact refractive power.

TREATMENT OVERVIEW

Understanding IPCL — Implantable Phakic Contact Lens

What is IPCL Surgery?

IPCL (Implantable Phakic Contact Lens) is a posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens — a thin, foldable lens implanted between the iris and the eye's natural crystalline lens, without removing any corneal tissue. Manufactured by Care Group, Vadodara, India, the IPCL V2.0 corrects myopia (–2D to –30D), hyperopia (up to +15D), astigmatism (up to 10D cyl), and even presbyopia. It is ideal for patients with high prescriptions unsuitable for LASIK, thin corneas, or those who want a reversible, cornea-sparing vision correction.

IPCL vs LASIK — The Key Difference

LASIK reshapes the cornea permanently. IPCL adds a lens inside the eye — the cornea is completely untouched. Think of it as a permanent contact lens placed inside your eye.

Vision Problems IPCL Can Correct — –2.00D to –30.00D, Up to +15.00D, and Up to 10.00D Cyl

Myopia (Nearsightedness)

Distant objects blurry; elongated eyeball or excessive corneal curvature. IPCL correction range: –2.00D to –30.00D.

LASIK max is around –10D; IPCL corrects up to –30D safely

High Myopia

Myopia above –6D; significant risk of retinal complications. IPCL correction range: –6.00D to –30.00D.

IPCL is preferred over LASIK for high myopia to preserve cornea

Hyperopia (Farsightedness)

Near objects hard to focus; eye too short or cornea too flat. IPCL correction range: up to +15.00D.

Laser correction is limited to around +4D; IPCL handles high hyperopia

Astigmatism

Blurred vision at all distances; irregular corneal curvature. Toric IPCL corrects up to 10.00D cylinder.

Toric IPCL corrects very high cylinder that laser cannot

Thin Corneas

Corneal thickness below LASIK safe threshold (<480 microns). IPCL does not touch the cornea — the perfect solution for thin cornea patients.

Cornea completely preserved

Presbyopia (40+)

Age-related loss of near vision flexibility. Presbyopic IPCL can correct ADD up to +4D along with distance power.

IPCL trifocal option corrects presbyopia plus distance power together

Expected Visual Outcomes

IPCL has been clinically validated in peer-reviewed studies published in the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery and Clinical Ophthalmology. Most patients achieve 20/20 or better uncorrected vision. Recovery is 24–48 hours. The IPCL lens itself lasts a lifetime — it does not degrade, discolour, or change over time. If a cataract develops in future, the IPCL can be removed and replaced with a standard IOL.

OUR APPROACH

IPCL V2.0 — What Makes It Special

The IPCL V2.0 (Care Group, India) is the latest generation of the Implantable Phakic Contact Lens, incorporating multiple design innovations that set it apart from competing phakic IOLs.

  • Spring Haptic Pad Design: Six haptic pads ensure stable positioning and excellent white-to-white fit across diverse eye anatomies.

  • Central Hole Design: Equalises intraocular pressure — no pre-operative YAG laser iridotomy needed.

  • Smart Toric Design: No surgical axis marking required — self-positioning for astigmatism correction.

  • Smooth Edges — Zero Iris Trauma: Eliminates iris trauma and reduces pigment dispersion or IOP spikes.

  • Trifocal Presbyopic Option: Near, intermediate, and distance vision correction for presbyopia patients.

  • Wide Power Range: +15D to –30D spherical, cylinder up to 10D, ADD up to +4D. Customised in 0.5D increments.

  • Sub-2.8 mm Microincision: Self-sealing incision — no stitches, minimal surgical trauma, fast healing.

ALL YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Frequently Asked Questions About IPCL Surgery

What is IPCL surgery and how is it different from LASIK?

IPCL (Implantable Phakic Contact Lens) is a lens implanted inside the eye between the iris and the natural crystalline lens — no corneal tissue is removed. LASIK uses a laser to permanently reshape the cornea. IPCL is reversible; LASIK is not. IPCL corrects powers up to –30D; LASIK is limited to around –10D. IPCL is ideal for patients with high prescriptions, thin corneas, or those who want a reversible, cornea-sparing option.

What is the difference between IPCL and ICL?

IPCL (Implantable Phakic Contact Lens) is manufactured by Care Group, Vadodara, India. ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) is manufactured by STAAR Surgical, Switzerland. Both are posterior chamber phakic IOLs with comparable clinical outcomes. IPCL corrects up to –30D (ICL up to –20D). IPCL is significantly more cost-effective being Indian-made. A 2024 peer-reviewed clinical study confirmed comparable visual and corneal safety outcomes between IPCL V2.0 and ICL V4c. At Netram, we offer both — Dr. Anchal will guide you to the best option for your eyes and budget.

Am I suitable for IPCL if I was told I cannot get LASIK?

Very possibly, yes. Many patients unsuitable for LASIK — due to high myopia, thin corneas, or high astigmatism — are excellent candidates for IPCL. Key requirements are adequate anterior chamber depth (ACD ≥ 2.8 mm), adequate endothelial cell count (≥ 2000 cells/mm²), stable prescription, and age 21–45. A free consultation at our Greater Kailash II centre will tell you definitively within 90 minutes.

Is IPCL surgery painful?

IPCL surgery is performed under topical anaesthesia — numbing eye drops only. No injections. No general anaesthesia. You remain awake and comfortable throughout. Most patients report feeling mild pressure for a few seconds but no pain. The procedure takes 10–15 minutes per eye.

How long does IPCL surgery take and when can I go home?

The procedure itself takes 10–15 minutes per eye. With pre-operative preparation and post-operative observation, you will be at the clinic for approximately 2–3 hours. You go home the same day. Both eyes are typically done on the same day or 1–2 weeks apart.

Can IPCL be reversed or removed?

Yes — this is one of IPCL's most important advantages. The lens can be removed or exchanged at any time if your prescription changes significantly, or if you develop a cataract in the future and need a standard cataract surgery. This reversibility offers complete peace of mind, especially for younger patients.

What tests are done before IPCL surgery?

Before IPCL surgery, we perform: Pentacam/corneal topography, anterior chamber depth (ACD) measurement, white-to-white (corneal diameter) measurement, endothelial cell count (specular microscopy), intraocular pressure, cycloplegic refraction, retinal evaluation, and biometry. These determine eligibility, correct lens power, and appropriate lens size.

What is the cost of IPCL surgery at Netram Eye Foundation, Delhi?

Our IPCL pricing: Phakic IOL (both eyes) for power below –8D — ₹1,00,000 for both eyes. Phakic IOL (both eyes) for power above –8D — ₹1,40,000 for both eyes. Toric IPCL (for astigmatism) — ₹80,000 per eye. All packages include pre-operative work-up and standard follow-up care. EMI and cashless insurance options available.

What are the risks of IPCL surgery?

IPCL is a safe, well-validated procedure but like any intraocular surgery carries some risks: transient rise in intraocular pressure (managed with drops), cataract risk over long term (rare, minimised by adequate vault), glare or halos in early recovery (usually resolves in 4–8 weeks), and very rarely, need for lens repositioning. Endophthalmitis (infection) is extremely rare in modern aseptic surgical settings. These risks are discussed transparently at your consultation.

How long does IPCL last — is it permanent?

The IPCL lens itself lasts a lifetime — it does not degrade, discolour, or change over time. Most patients enjoy clear vision for decades. If you develop age-related cataract (a natural occurrence after 55–60 years of age), the IPCL can be removed and replaced with a standard IOL during cataract surgery. The procedure is planned with your long-term visual health in mind.
